With the UK's ZEV mandate looming and 2024 drawing to a close, Volkswagen has announced a series of updates for its ID.3, ID.4, and ID.5 models. These changes focus on revising trim lines and making the models more accessible to budget-conscious buyers.
The ID.3, Volkswagen's most affordable EV, receives two new trim levels: Pure Essential and Pure Match. Both trims introduce a new 52 kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP range of up to 241 miles. Both feature a 168bhp rear motor, which delivers a 0-62 mph sprint time of 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 99mph. Torque output is 310Nm.
The Pure Essential keeps things basic with LED lighting, 18-inch steel wheels, and a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system while the Pure Match adds alloy wheels, automatic climate control, heated seats, and a rear-view camera. In terms of pricing, the Pure Essential costs £30,850 while the Pure Match retails at £32,210. Prior to the arrival of the new models, the entry-level ID.3 was the £36,650 Match model.
The new entry-level 52kWh battery offers rapid DC charging at speeds of up to 145kW. According to Volkswagen’s figures, a 10-80% charge can be completed in around 25 minutes.
For the ID.4 SUV, the revision focuses on the Pure Match trim. This trim receives a price reduction of £3,090 and now features 19-inch alloy wheels as standard. The ID.5's Match trim also benefits from the new 52 kWh battery pack, leading to a lower entry price of £41,050. However, this configuration utilises the lower-output 168bhp motor, which impacts performance compared to the 77kWh version.
Volkswagen hasn't forgotten performance enthusiasts as part of its range tweaks. The ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX receive slight price reductions and a new Edition trim. This trim bundles additional features like a 360-degree camera system, power-adjustable seats with massage function, and advanced driver assistance technologies. Previously, this equipment would have cost buyers around £6,500 as options.
