Winter takes it toll
First up - Range. Ok so when I first got the car I was seeing 320 miles of range when it was charged at 100%, now here we are, the temp is well below eight degrees and I’m getting 250-260 miles with the battery fully charged. I’m now getting 2.9 - 3.2 miles per kWh. If I’m honest, I expected numbers to drop so this hasn’t come as a surprise, but one thing it has done is its made me a much more efficient driver! I know, right?! Although I can’t lie, I still absolutely love the EV joy of winning at every traffic light.
Oh wanna hear something very annoying? Of course you do. So far the UK has had one VERY cold morning. This is normally where being an electric car driver comes into it’s own. Preconditioning! We love it.. But…..and its a big juicy but, the door handles froze. Seriously. It’s all well and good pre heating the car so you can sit in all toasty and smug, but you kinda need to be able to get into the car in the first place. I remember this happening with Tesla and their ‘flush’ handles. They look very smart while parked and while driving, but they don’t get along well with freezing weather do they? *Face palm*
Loving the tech
Next up - tech. I’ve grown tolerant of the wired car play, the click wheel on the centre console to scroll through the menu is marvellous (you don’t have to tap the screen every two seconds, huzzah!) and I’ve officially found the massaging seat button. Lets talk about the bum punch. Well, that’s what I’m calling it. On the settings it says ‘pelvis’. WE LOVE THE BUM PUNCH! So many cars with massaging seats (I’m thinking of the Mercedes EQS and even the Range Rover PHEV) only massage your back and shoulders. Not the GV60. Oh no. It puts pressure points on your back AND it punches up at your bum cheeks gently tilting your pelvis from left to right. As a sufferer of back ache on long journeys, this is a bloomin’ pleasure!!!
Charging - Preconditioning the battery is the key to success here. It charges at a DC rapid charger at speeds of up to 230kW (if you can find a charger fast enough). Pop a charge point into your nav and the car will get the battery ready for a fast charge sesh so it plugs straight in a peak speed. Only annoyance is you have to use the car Nav only, not Apple maps or Waze. This is a common annoyance in most EVs, not specific to Genesis.
More tricks than Sooty
Oooh have you seen the video review yet? It’s live now and it was such a joy to film. Enjoy every single party trick this car can do… Yes, it starts with a mystic meg impression, but how could I not with that crystal ball?
In case you don’t have time to watch the video, here’s a list of some of the car’s party tricks: Massaging seats, remote parking from stood outside the car, facial recognition, finger print recognition, self closing charge port, sport supported seats, smart headlights, air purification, that special crystal ball gear selector, window open warning, rear blinds, augmented reality satnav….and many more.
