An introduction...
The GV60 comes in three spec choices - Premium, Sport and Sport plus. The one that is sat on my driveway as I type this is the premium edition. Base spec. Honestly, there is nothing basic about this spec what so ever. That crystal ball gear selector, the heated AND aerated seats, the smart ventilation….hello!
As a fan of Korean brands, this is quite an exciting first step for me. The tech you normally find in a top spec Kia or Hyundai is OF COURSE included in the GV60, so I already know its gonna be a good fit for me.
As soon as it arrived I had to make two purchases. The first was a USB-C cable. Why? Well, no wireless CarPlay. I am that person who uses CarPlay all the time, so this is a tad annoying. Guess I don’t need that wireless charging pad that’s included because my phone will be plugged in the whole time anyway.
Purchase number two was a box for my wellies. Yes I am now that country lass who has wellies in the boot for dog walks. I’d got so used to chucking my wellies under the boot floor of my Kia Sportage, that when I moved over to the GV60, the space under the boot floor was, well, non existent. Cable room only I’m afraid. So now my wellies sit in a little box in the boot (first world problems, right?)
I turned up to Electrifying HQ and told the team about the welly box. The first thing Mike said was, “can’t you put them in the frunk?”. Cue the laughter. Yep. Didn’t cross my mind. Face palm. Ok, I’ll try the 53 litre, cavernous frunk. Makes total sense. Why didn’t I think of that? It's not exactly a huge space for boots, but it does the job.
A strong start
In my first month I travelled way over 1500 miles and noticed I was getting roughly 3.9 miles per kWh. Which when you consider the amount of performance on offer, is pretty good. Designer Mike runs a mechanically similar Hyundai IONIQ 5 and claims that he never gets near that figure. So I guess I’m doing something right. My first charge to 100% offered me 320 miles of range, which I figured was pretty good.
This is where I’ll have to be completely honest. I’ve been driving in comfort mode, I haven’t been using the climate control at all (it’s been a weirdly warm start to autumn), I’ve mostly been ‘one pedal’ driving and haven’t felt the urge to completely put my foot down. So month one has definitely been Nicola Hume - relaxed edition. Not the normal heavy footed Nicola.
We’ll have to give it time with the range. See if it drastically changes over winter once the heating gets turned up and as my foot gets heavier. Watch this space.
