Pricing
The MG4 oofers fantastic value for money. Prices start at £26,995, which undercuts the near identically sized Volkswagen ID.3 by over £10,000. That low asking price isn’t reflected in what you get for your money, either, as the entry-level Standard Range gets LED front and rear headlights, a seven-inch digital driver's display, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, rear parking sensors, 17-inch alloys and a host of safety systems.
The Long Range models start at £29,495 for the SE, while the sportier looking Trophy costs £32,495. The Trophy gets a fancy rear spoiler, upgraded rear LED lights, a 360-degree parking camera, a wireless phone charger, sat-nav, heated front seats and steering wheel, among other features.
he Trophy Extended range at £36,495 adds no extra kit, just a larger battery, while the high-performance XPower, also priced at £36,495, features Alcantara seats, 18-inch alloys with orange brake callipers and metal pedals.
Running costs
Just like a car with an engine, running costs will change depending on the size of the battery pack and drivetrain fitted to the MG4. For the 51kWh battery, an overnight charge should cost just over £14 (using average electricity rates at time of publication) while a 20-80% top-up at a rapid charger (average tariff of 79p) should be less than £40.
Insurance
The MG4 sits in insurance groups 27 to 29 which is on par with its rivals such as the Volkswagen ID.3 and Renault Megane E-Tech Electric. The MG4 XPower sits in the much higher 33 group due its higher performance.
Servicing costs
MG says the MG4 should receive its first service in the second year after first registration or 30,000 miles where the pollen filter, key batteries and brake fluid will be changed. After that, the MG4 will need to be serviced in the fourth year/60,000 miles and in the fifth year/75,000 miles. MG offers service plans which can help to spread the cost of essential maintenance.
